Made-in-America

'Conscious America’ is a site designed, in hope, to show that we can control many critical aspects of our lives, if we choose to accept responsibility for the choices that we make.

Why do we need Decency? We've got a Constitution!Date Released: 05/08/2005
Whenever there is a debate about a particular issue in our society, I was astonished to see a Constitution or a quote from one of the Founding Fathers was being used every time to justify a particular point of view. It is as if to say that all that we are or ought to be is in American Constitution and without it we are nothing. How offensive or naive, at best! I could never understand how so many in this country proclaim that The Law and Constitution need to be protected? Not the women and children. Not the impoverished or even innocent, not the victims, but The Law and Constitution.

As I was growing up, in a Dark Place - on the other side of the world, yet even there, I always witnessed people using "right" and "wrong" to come to a decision. And once a decision was made, the Law of the Land may be consulted as a guide to set a punishment or to further regulate an issue.

Law cannot be killed. It cannot be raped. It doesn't feel the pain or hunger. You cannot put chains around the Law and sell it into slavery. It cannot be lynched or gassed in a concentration camp. But you can use the Law to commit and justify all of the above.

Even when God said, "Be Good", and gave us the Ten Commandments and the Bible, it was meant and accepted as a guide to evolution or Decency. For God, or the Universe (depending on your views), gave us something else - a Soul, to guide those who understand the difference between right or wrong and good or evil.
Regrettably, so many in this country (especially the Elite) understand only the Law and Constitution.
